Two people have been hospitalised after a terrifying balcony collapse at a home in Gerringong on the New South Wales South Coast. The man and woman plunged approximately two metres when the structure gave way beneath them on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency Response to Geering Street
The incident occurred around 12:30pm on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at a property on Geering Street. Emergency services, including special operations and extended care paramedics, were dispatched to the scene following reports of the collapse.
Upon arrival, crews found a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s with serious ankle injuries. The pair had been standing on the balcony when it suddenly failed, dropping them to the ground below.
Paramedics Provide Critical Care
Intensive care special operations paramedic Mark Bartlett was among the first responders. He confirmed that both patients were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital.
"We were able to extricate the patients from the scene, treat the patients here initially and they've both been transported to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition," Mr Bartlett said.
A Concerning Trend for the Area
This alarming event marks the second serious fall incident in Gerringong in recent months. Previously, a man survived an eight-metre fall while attempting to enter his own home.
The cause of the balcony's structural failure is not yet known. The incident serves as a stark reminder for homeowners to ensure the integrity of external structures, particularly with the increased social activity often seen during the holiday period.
Authorities have not indicated if any further investigation into the property will be conducted.
