Carer found dead at Buccan home, man arrested

A 36-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of his carer's body at his southeast Queensland home, in a case that has shocked the local community.

Early Morning Discovery at Buccan Property

The body of a 46-year-old woman from Ashgrove was found on the back steps of a two-storey house on Waterford Tamborine Rd at Buccan around 2.30am on Monday. Police had been conducting a welfare check at the address after the woman was reported missing from her Brisbane home about 1am that same morning.

Officers confirmed the woman had visible injuries when they located her. The male resident of the property was not present at the time of the grim discovery.

Arrest Made on NSW Mid North Coast

Queensland Police later tracked down the 36-year-old man to Kempsey, on the New South Wales Mid North Coast, where he was taken into custody later on Monday. The man is expected to face court in NSW on Tuesday, with detectives from Queensland travelling south to interview him regarding the incident.

Detective Acting Inspector Justin Anderson revealed the woman had been visiting the Buccan address in a professional capacity as the man's carer. Her disappearance was deemed out of character, prompting a family member to raise the alarm with police on Sunday.

Timeline of Disappearance and Investigation

The carer was last seen at The Gap around 7pm on Saturday after dropping a family member at a party. The welfare check that led to the discovery of her body was initiated after she was formally reported missing.

The exact cause of death is yet to be determined, pending the results of a post-mortem examination. Police have not released further details about the nature of the woman's injuries.

Neighbours told investigators the house had been unoccupied for some time and was sold last year. They also noted the male resident worked from home. Queensland Police have stated their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death are ongoing.
