Cardinal Health Opens Medical Device Remanufacturing Site in Hunter

Global healthcare company Cardinal Health has established a new remanufacturing facility in Beresfield, in the Hunter region of New South Wales. The site is the company's first Australian facility dedicated to remanufacturing single-use medical devices, initially focusing on compression sleeves used in post-surgical care and deep vein thrombosis prevention.

The facility will apply a process that Cardinal Health has operated in the United States since 2015, returning devices to circulation after comprehensive quality testing and high-level disinfection. The project aims to reduce medical waste by diverting specific devices from landfill, addressing a growing challenge in the healthcare sector.

Cardinal Health is recruiting for operational, technical and professional roles at the site and engaging with local partners. Company leaders said the Hunter region was chosen for its strong infrastructure, skilled workforce and alignment with the company's values of integrity, inclusion, innovation, accountability and mission-driven focus.

The investment reflects Cardinal Health's broader commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles within Australian healthcare. The company has been a supplier of medical devices in Australia and New Zealand for over 50 years, with brands including Kangaroo, Kendall, Protexis and Genius.

Beyond environmental benefits, the Beresfield site is expected to deliver long-term employment opportunities for the region. Cardinal Health is offering competitive remuneration, wellbeing initiatives and clear career pathways as part of its reputation as an employer of choice.
