A late-night dog attack in the Hunter Region has left a teenage boy and two adults with injuries, prompting a police response that ended with the animal being put down.
Chaos on Scott Street
The incident unfolded on Monday night around 11pm on Scott Cl in Raymond Terrace. According to NSW Police, a large dog, described as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Mastiff cross, was loose and “attacking people”. A couple, aged 35 and 36, were walking along the street when the aggressive animal set upon them.
Boy Attacked Inside Home
After assaulting the couple, the dog then ran into a nearby house. Inside, it attacked a 14-year-old boy who was present. This escalated the situation, with emergency services quickly called to the scene.
Paramedics assessed all three victims at the location. While their injuries were significant, they were assessed as non-life threatening. All three were subsequently transported to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Faced with the dangerous and uncontrolled animal, police officers at the scene made the decision to euthanise the dog. The action was taken to ensure immediate public safety in the Raymond Terrace community.
A key question remains unanswered: who owned the dog? Police confirmed they are now collaborating with local council rangers in an effort to identify the animal’s owner. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the dog to contact Crime Stoppers.
The attack has shocked the local community and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and control, especially with larger breed animals.
