The Shed Pizza & Co: Fremantle's La Sosta Owners Return with New Safety Bay Venture

An unassuming former car garage in Safety Bay has been transformed into a vibrant new dining destination with the launch of The Shed Pizza & Co, marking the return of the original owners behind Fremantle's acclaimed Italian restaurant La Sosta.

After a two-year hiatus from the restaurant industry, Matteo Musetti has rejoined the culinary world alongside his former employees Daniele Terzoli and Elena Ridenti to create this exciting new pizza establishment.

Warm Welcome Despite Soft Opening

The restaurant's soft opening last week saw a completely full house, surprising the owners who had intentionally kept their launch low-key. "We didn't even have signage outside or a Facebook page or anything. We wanted to open slowly but we were very welcomed to the bay," Mr Terzoli explained.

Mr Musetti expressed similar astonishment at the immediate response: "When you start something new you don't expect too much, but we were very busy." The owners were particularly touched to recognize familiar names from their La Sosta days among the reservations, noting that creating community has always been central to their restaurant philosophy.

From Upscale to Beachside Casual

While La Sosta was known for its sophisticated antipastis and house-made pastas, The Shed Pizza & Co represents a deliberate shift toward a more relaxed dining experience. "I like the coast, I like the ocean. Our main focus was always south of the river because we're from south of the river," Mr Musetti shared, explaining their choice of location.

The owners have consciously designed the restaurant to complement Safety Bay's laid-back beach atmosphere. "It's a lot more relaxing than somewhere in the city. We wanted something very simple, very friendly and very ambient," Mr Musetti added.

Accessible Dining for All Occasions

Mr Terzoli emphasized their goal of creating an inclusive space: "It suits every occasion and that's what we wanted. If you have something to celebrate, you have a date, or you're coming straight in from the beach with dirty feet you can walk in and feel comfortable, no problem."

The restaurant's culinary focus centers on authentic wood-fired pizzas featuring a blend of imported Italian ingredients and local produce. The team describes their approach as blending modern industrial aesthetics with authentic soul, creating a unique dining environment that honors traditional techniques while embracing contemporary design.
