A tragic hit-and-run incident north of Brisbane has claimed the life of a teenage girl, with police now launching a major investigation to find the driver who fled the scene.

Emergency services rushed to Margate Parade in the suburb of Margate on Monday night after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. The call came in at approximately 11.27pm.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 17-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries. They immediately began performing CPR in a desperate attempt to save her. Despite their efforts, the teenager was declared dead a short time later.
