Tragedy on the Newell Highway
A young man has lost his life in a devastating accident on a major New South Wales roadway. The incident occurred on the Newell Highway in Tomingley, a location approximately 38 kilometres south of Narromine.
Details of the Fatal Collision
On Friday evening around 6:30 PM, a trailer being towed by a Toyota HiLux suddenly became detached. The runaway trailer then smashed into an oncoming Toyota Landcruiser. The driver of the Landcruiser, a 33-year-old man, suffered critical injuries in the impact. Despite the best efforts of paramedics who treated him at the scene, the man could not be saved and died at the location.
The driver of the Toyota HiLux, a 34-year-old man, was physically uninjured. However, he was taken to hospital for mandatory testing as part of the standard police procedure. He has since been released from medical care while the investigation continues.
Ongoing Investigation and Appeal
In response to the fatal crash, police established a crime scene and called in specialist officers to assist with the complex investigation. The circumstances leading to the trailer's detachment are now the central focus of the inquiry. Authorities are now meticulously compiling a report that will be presented to the coroner.
Police have made a public appeal for information. They are urging anyone who witnessed the event, or who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the vehicles involved prior to the collision, to come forward and contact them.
