Man dies in early morning freeway crash
A man has been killed after his car collided with a stationary roadworks truck on a major Melbourne freeway in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 1am on the Eastern Freeway inbound, between Middleborough and Tram roads in the suburb of Box Hill North.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the driver of the car, who has not yet been formally identified, could not be saved and died at the location.
Roadworker hospitalised, freeway section closed
A roadworker who was near the site of the collision was transported to hospital with injuries assessed as non-life-threatening.
In response to the crash, Victoria Police have blocked off a section of the Eastern Freeway to facilitate their investigation. Traffic is currently being diverted off the freeway at Middlesbrough Road.
Authorities are advising motorists to use alternative routes, specifically suggesting Wetherby Road and Doncaster Road to re-join the freeway and avoid the closed area.
Charges laid in separate Sydney tradie incident
In an unrelated incident in Sydney, police have now laid charges following a serious crash last week that left three tradesmen injured.
The event unfolded on Friday morning on Lock Street in Blacktown. A white Toyota Corolla and a maroon Honda CRV collided, causing one of the vehicles to mount the kerb where three men, aged 35, 22, and 21, were standing at a pedestrian crossing.
All three pedestrians were struck by the vehicle and required urgent medical attention from paramedics before being rushed to hospital for treatment.
This week, on Wednesday, police arrested the 22-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla. He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm among other offences.
The accused man was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to face Blacktown Local Court in November.
The investigation into the precise circumstances of the Melbourne freeway crash remains ongoing, according to a statement from police.
