Adelaide Taxi Driver Survives Head-On Freeway Crash

A taxi driver has miraculously survived a terrifying head-on collision on Adelaide's South Eastern Freeway after a woman drove into oncoming traffic at high speed. Exclusive footage obtained by 7NEWS captures the heart-stopping moment the cabbie, travelling at nearly 100km/h, suddenly faced a vehicle hurtling directly towards him in the wrong lane.

Miraculous Escape from High-Impact Crash

The taxi driver had no opportunity to avoid the devastating impact, which left him clutching his bloodied nose. Incredibly, both motorists managed to walk away from the wreckage despite the severe force of the collision. The taxi driver was en route to his first job of the day when the woman's car crossed into the incorrect lane and ploughed into his vehicle.

Bystanders Risk Safety to Assist Injured Pair

As airbag dust filled the air and smoke billowed from one of the damaged cars, bystanders stopped to help the injured individuals just before a 110km/h zone on a blind corner. These Good Samaritans placed themselves in considerable danger as other vehicles continued to speed past the chaotic scene.

Witness Stephen Spreadborough recounted the harrowing incident to 7NEWS, stating, "I stopped and a fair few people came flying through behind me, but I tried blocking most of the traffic." He emphasised, "Definitely luck that no one was killed."

Police Investigation and Freeway Closure

Authorities shut down the freeway lanes for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked to remove the mangled vehicles from the roadway. Police have confirmed that no charges have been laid over the crash as investigations into the incident continue.

Law enforcement officials are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward with information that could assist their ongoing investigation into this near-fatal traffic incident.
