A community in southern New South Wales is in mourning after the tragic death of a teenage boy near a popular local waterhole.
Emergency Response at Waterfall Drive
On Monday afternoon, January 19, emergency services were called to Waterfall Drive in Jerrabomberra following reports a teenager had been seriously injured. The incident occurred near the Jerrabomberra Waterhole, a known local spot. Police confirmed the call came in at approximately 2:05 pm.
Initial reports indicated the boy had fallen and was found with critical injuries at the bottom of a cliff area. A member of the public who was at the scene bravely commenced CPR in an attempt to save the boy's life before paramedics arrived.
Efforts to Save Him Were Unsuccessful
Despite the swift response from NSW Ambulance crews and the efforts of the first aider, the teenager could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have since confirmed the boy was just 13 years old.
Officers from the Monaro Police District have taken charge of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. As is standard procedure following an unexpected death, a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The death has sent shockwaves through the local Jerrabomberra and wider Queanbeyan-Canberra region. The area near the waterhole, while frequented by locals, can present hazards, particularly around rocky outcrops and steep edges.
