Police in New South Wales have launched a public appeal for information on the whereabouts of two people missing from the Illawarra region, expressing serious concerns for their welfare.
Elderly Man Missing from Albion Park
The separate cases involve an 84-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both of whom were last seen on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Jeffery Berthaly, aged 84, was last sighted at approximately 10:30 am on Daintree Drive in Albion Park. Authorities and his family are deeply worried due to his advanced age and reported unfamiliarity with the local area.
Police describe Jeffery as Caucasian, of medium build, and around 175 centimetres tall. He is balding with white hair on the sides and back of his head. When last seen, he was wearing a black zip-up jumper, a white short-sleeved collared shirt, blue jeans, black shoes, and a black and white baseball cap.
He is known to frequent the Dapto and Albion areas and may hitch-hike or use public transport.
Young Woman May Be in Port Kembla
In a separate and unrelated incident, Faith Sleight, 25, is also missing. She was last seen at a shopping centre food court in Blacktown around 1:00 pm on the same day. Investigators believe she could now be in the Port Kembla area.
Faith is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance with a large build and an olive complexion. She stands roughly 165cm tall and has black hair and brown eyes. Her last known outfit consisted of white pants, white shoes, a khaki-coloured camouflaged t-shirt, and she was carrying a black bum bag.
She is known to use the public transport network and often visits the Port Kembla, Liverpool, and St George districts.
Ongoing Search for Missing Persons
These latest disappearances come as police continue to investigate the cases of 31 long-term missing people from the Illawarra region. The simultaneous appeals highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the critical role the public plays in providing leads.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to come forward immediately. Any detail could be vital in ensuring the safe return of Jeffery and Faith.
