Perth Cavoodle Tooshie Celebrates Major Milestone After Rare Condition
A Perth cavoodle named Tooshie, who was born without a bumhole, has achieved an extraordinary milestone by passing a normal-sized poo without any assistance. This marks a significant step in his recovery from the extremely rare condition known as Atresia ani, which was diagnosed in June last year.
Heartbreaking Discovery and Miraculous Survival
Tooshie's journey began when he was surrendered by a backyard breeder to the Warwick Veterinary Hospital in Perth. Staff there made the heartbreaking discovery of his condition, with practice owner Kate Doyle expressing amazement at his survival. "It is extremely rare, just the fact that he survived for five weeks with toxic poo fermenting inside of him is a miracle — his insides could have rotted away," she said at the time.
Now, 10 months later, Ms Doyle has shared an emotional update on the Facebook page of her organisation, Moon's Mission. She announced that Tooshie has successfully passed a dog poo of regular size and consistency on his own, describing it as a moment she had been eagerly awaiting throughout the challenging recovery process.
Emotional Update and Global Support
In the update, Ms Doyle wrote, "Tooshie's done it… he's done it!! He just done a poo. A proper, normal, dog-sized poo. On his own. No help." She highlighted the ups and downs of the 10-month journey, emphasising that this achievement allows Tooshie to live more like a normal dog. A video accompanying the post shows a grown-up Tooshie, sporting a cone, proudly standing next to the proof of his accomplishment.
The post also addressed the global support Tooshie has received, with Ms Doyle noting hundreds of messages from people worldwide checking in on him. She expressed gratitude to supporters and had a message for critics, saying, "To all the trolls and people who said euthanise him... To everyone who has supported his poop journey, donated towards him and sent me messages of support. Thank you will never be enough!!"
Inspiration and Ongoing Journey
Tooshie's story has captured hearts across Perth and beyond, serving as an inspiration to many. His resilience in the face of a life-threatening condition underscores the importance of veterinary care and community support in animal recovery efforts. As he continues his journey, this milestone represents a hopeful step toward a healthier future for the brave cavoodle.
