Queensland Police have taken a major step in a shocking homicide case, issuing an arrest warrant for murder after the body of a beloved Brisbane carer and singer was discovered at a home south of the city.
Body Found During Welfare Check
The investigation began in the early hours of Monday morning, when officers attended a two-storey property on Waterford Tamborine Road in Buccan, southeast of Brisbane. They were conducting a welfare check for 46-year-old Velvet Crystal Sky Pesu, who had been reported missing from her Ashgrove home around 1am.
Tragically, police found Pesu's body on the back steps of the residence. She was last seen alive at The Gap around 7pm on Saturday, after dropping a family member at a party. The male resident of the Buccan home, who was also her client, was nowhere to be found, triggering an urgent search.
Dramatic Arrest Follows High-Speed Chase
The wanted man was identified as 36-year-old Wael Abdallah Saleem Alfar, a mechanic originally from Sydney. An intense manhunt led police to the NSW Mid North Coast.
Authorities allege Alfar was involved in a dangerous high-speed pursuit with officers from Coffs Harbour. The chase, spanning approximately 80 kilometres through towns including Valla, Nambucca Heads, and Macksville, saw speeds reach up to 200km/h. Police claim Alfar swerved around road spikes and drove at officers, forcing them to jump to safety.
The pursuit ended when Alfar's vehicle crashed into a culvert near Kempsey. He was arrested and taken into custody on traffic offences. He faced a NSW court this week and was remanded in custody until February 25 for sentencing on those matters.
Community Mourns a Creative Force
As the legal process unfolds, friends and family are remembering Velvet Crystal Sky Pesu as a vibrant and generous member of the community. A mother and a well-known figure in Brisbane's experimental music and visual arts scene, she had spent more than 26 years performing and creating.
Her recent artistic appearances included the Korean Experimental Art Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, and the Off Other Film Festival. In a heartfelt statement, her daughter described Pesu as courageous, kind, and generous, highlighting that she bought instruments for children in Zimbabwe to help them connect with their cultural music.
Detective Acting Inspector Justin Anderson confirmed that Pesu visited Alfar's Buccan home in a professional capacity as his carer. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, with detectives confirming she was found with injuries at the scene.
Queensland Police confirmed on Wednesday that a warrant for murder has now been officially issued in relation to Pesu's death. "Once the NSW court matters are finalised, Queensland Police will seek his extradition back to Queensland," a police statement said. Investigations into the tragic incident remain ongoing.
