Police have launched a murder investigation following the grim discovery of a woman's body inside a residence in the regional New South Wales city of Goulburn.
Disturbing Discovery on Joshua Street
Officers were called to a home on Joshua Street around 7am on Saturday after a neighbour raised concerns for the welfare of the resident. Upon arrival, they found the body of a woman, believed to be aged in her 40s. Police suspect the woman had been deceased for several days before she was found, though the exact cause of her death remains under investigation.
In a distressing turn, police also discovered one of the woman's dogs at the property with serious injuries. It is understood the woman lived alone at the address.
Forensic Scour of the Property
Forensic teams spent several hours meticulously combing through the home, gathering evidence crucial to solving the case. The scene has been sealed as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the woman's death.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their inquiries, urging people to contact Crime Stoppers.
Community Left Reeling by Tragedy
The incident has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Goulburn, with neighbours expressing disbelief and fear. The violent nature of the crime has deeply unsettled residents accustomed to the quieter pace of country life.
"It's shocking. It's really shocking," one local resident told 7NEWS.
Another person echoed the sentiment of many, stating, "You can expect it in Sydney or bigger places like this, but not in a little country town like Goulburn. So it's nerve-wracking and pretty scary."
Police are treating the case as a tragic start to the new year for the regional community and continue their investigation into this suspicious death.
