The Cairns community is in mourning following the alleged murder of a young local woman, whose family has paid a heartfelt tribute to her memory.
A Life Cut Short in Manoora
Richarna Clarke, a 22-year-old resident of Manoora in Cairns, was found deceased at a Pease Street home on Saturday, May 18. Queensland Police were called to the address just before 7:30 pm that evening, where they discovered her body.
In the wake of the tragedy, Ms Clarke's grieving family has spoken publicly, remembering her as a kind and loving person. Her aunt, Tracey Clarke, described her niece as "a good girl" who was deeply cherished. "She was a good girl, she was loved," Ms Clarke told The Cairns Post.
The family's profound loss is compounded by the upcoming anniversary of another tragedy. Richarna Clarke's father passed away just one year ago, making this period especially difficult for her loved ones.
Police Investigation and Charges Laid
Following the discovery, detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch swiftly launched a major investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young woman's death.
As a result of their inquiries, a 23-year-old Manoora man was arrested and charged with one count of murder on Sunday, May 19. The accused faced the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, May 20, where the matter was officially heard.
While the legal process is now underway, police have indicated that their investigations are continuing. They have urged anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.
A Community in Mourning
The alleged murder has sent shockwaves through the close-knit northern suburbs of Cairns. The loss of such a young life has left friends, neighbours, and the broader community grappling with sadness and disbelief.
As the Clarke family prepares to say their final goodbyes, they are focused on honouring Richarna's memory. Tracey Clarke confirmed that funeral arrangements are currently being made, a painful task for a family dealing with a second devastating loss in just twelve months.
The case highlights the ongoing concerns about community safety and domestic violence. It serves as a sombre reminder of the work still needed to protect vulnerable individuals.
For now, the family's simple yet powerful words—"a good girl"—stand as a poignant tribute to a young woman whose life ended far too soon in the city she called home.
