A body discovered in Darwin bushland has brought a tragic end to the search for a Northern Territory man missing for over two weeks.
Extensive search for missing man
Angelo, 44, was last seen entering a service station on Bagot Road in the suburb of Ludmilla around 8pm on Wednesday, January 3. He was reported missing to police three days later, on Saturday, January 6. His disappearance triggered significant concern, leading to a renewed public appeal by both police and his family just this past Monday.
Search efforts were concentrated across several inner-Darwin areas where he was known to frequent. Police and volunteers scoured locations in Ludmilla, Parap, Fannie Bay, and the East Point reserve.
Discovery at East Point
The search concluded on Friday when a body was located in bushland at East Point. The body was recovered and is believed to be that of the missing man. While formal identification procedures are still underway, authorities have notified Angelo's family and are providing them with support.
In an official statement, Northern Territory Police said, "Police are in contact with the man’s family, and are providing support as formal identification is underway."
Police prepare report for coroner
Authorities have indicated that the death is not currently being treated as suspicious. A report will now be prepared for the coroner, which is standard procedure for all unexpected deaths. The coroner will work to formally confirm the identity and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The discovery has cast a pall over the Darwin community, highlighting the dangers that can sometimes accompany disappearances in the Top End's often harsh and remote landscapes.
