A violent electrical storm over North Queensland has left three people in hospital after they were struck by lightning in a terrifying incident overnight.
Chaos Under the Storm
Emergency services were called to a property in Rollingstone, north of Townsville, just before 10:30 PM on Tuesday night following reports of a lightning strike. The dramatic event occurred as a severe thunderstorm cell swept through the region, unleashing intense rainfall, powerful winds, and frequent lightning.
Paramedics from Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) arrived to find three individuals who had sustained injuries from the strike. Two patients were transported to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition. A third person was also taken to the same hospital for further assessment and care.
A Night of Wild Weather
The lightning strike was part of a much larger and dangerous weather system that battered parts of North Queensland. The Bureau of Meteorology had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area, highlighting the potential for damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and large hailstones.
Residents across the region reported a spectacular yet frightening light show as the storm moved through. The wild conditions caused localised damage and disruption, with the lightning strike at Rollingstone being the most serious reported consequence of the night's tempest.

- If caught outside with no shelter, crouching down low with your feet together, minimising contact with the ground.
