Search for Missing Teenager Suspended at Popular NSW Beach
Emergency services have suspended the search for an 18-year-old man who was reported to be in difficulty while swimming at Little Bay Beach in Arakoon on Sunday afternoon. The multi-agency operation, which involved police and surf life saving crews, failed to locate the teenager and will resume on Monday morning.
Emergency Response at Little Bay
Police and marine rescue units were called to the popular holiday spot near South West Rocks on the NSW Mid North Coast at approximately 4:20pm on Sunday. Witnesses reported seeing the young man struggling in the water at the beach, which is known for its picturesque setting but can present challenging swimming conditions.
Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District coordinated the response alongside specialists from the Marine Area Command and Surf Life Saving NSW. Despite an extensive search of the area as daylight faded, crews were unable to find any trace of the missing swimmer.
Second Water Tragedy in the Region
This incident marks the second water-related emergency in the area within 24 hours. Sunday's search occurred less than an hour's drive from Crescent Head, where a 59-year-old man drowned after being caught in a rip on Saturday.
The back-to-back incidents have highlighted the very real dangers of swimming in unpatrolled areas or during dangerous conditions. Both locations are popular with holidaymakers, particularly during weekend periods.
The suspended search will recommence at first light on Monday with additional resources expected to join the operation. Police have urged anyone with information about the missing teenager to come forward immediately.
