Gold Coast park assault: Police appeal for witnesses

A popular Gold Coast national park became the scene of a frightening assault on Friday evening, prompting a police appeal for public assistance.

Attack in a popular park

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm on Friday within the Burleigh Heads National Park. A 38-year-old woman was walking through the area when she was suddenly grabbed from behind by an unknown male assailant.

The man then physically assaulted the woman. The attack was interrupted when two members of the public, a man and a woman, stepped in to intervene. Their courageous actions caused the offender to flee the scene on foot.

Police investigation and appeal

Following the assault, the offender was seen running in a northern direction back towards the lookout area. The victim sustained minor physical injuries as a result of the attack.

Queensland Police have now launched a public appeal for information. Detectives are particularly keen to speak to the man and woman who came to the victim's aid, as they may hold crucial details about the incident or the offender.

Authorities are also calling for anyone with relevant information to make contact. This includes individuals who might have:

  • Witnessed suspicious activity in or around Burleigh Heads National Park on Friday evening.
  • Dashcam or mobile phone footage of the park entrances or Goodwin Tce around the time of the assault.
  • Any other information that could assist the investigation.
