A vital community hub in Mandurah has received a significant financial boost to continue its crucial work supporting local women and families. WA Mums Cottage has been awarded a $23,000 grant from Lotterywest to fund its crisis and emergency relief services.
Funding Targets Growing Need for Support
The new funding injection will directly support the charity's work providing emergency relief to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship across Mandurah and the wider Peel region. It comes at a critical time, as the organisation reports an increasing number of local households seeking practical assistance.
The grant will help cover essential needs, strengthening the Cottage's capacity to offer tangible aid. WA Mums Cottage operates as a registered independent charity, offering a safe and nurturing daytime space. It is important to note it is not a refuge, but it delivers a broad spectrum of support including mentoring, counselling, advocacy, and its vital emergency relief program.
A Welcoming Space for Connection and Care
During a recent visit to the Cottage, Mandurah MLA Rhys Williams highlighted the particular challenges many families face, especially during the festive season. He expressed deep gratitude for the care and practical support provided by organisations like WA Mums Cottage.
"I’m so grateful for the care, compassion and practical support provided by organisations like WA Mums Cottage and for the difference they make in the lives of families who need it most," Mr Williams said.
The organisation further sustains its services through a community cafe and an op shop. The cafe is open to the public from 10am to 2.30pm, providing a friendly venue where locals can enjoy a meal while knowing every dollar spent goes directly back into supporting women and families in need.
Community Call for Christmas Fundraiser
As the busy holiday period approaches, WA Mums Cottage is also rallying community support for its upcoming Christmas gift-wrapping fundraiser at Mandurah Forum. All proceeds from this initiative will go directly to the charity, helping fund its programs during one of its most demanding times of the year.
This combination of grant funding and community-driven fundraising ensures WA Mums Cottage can continue to be a welcoming place where women find help, connection, and essential care.
