A Life Dedicated to Family
Supriya Thakur was found deceased inside her family's home in Northfield, Adelaide, on Sunday night. The discovery followed reports of an alleged domestic incident involving her 42-year-old husband.
Friends and neighbours have remembered Supriya as a devoted mother who had been building a new life for her family in Australia after moving from India eight years ago. She was actively working towards becoming a registered nurse, a career path driven by her passion for helping others.
"She's remembered as a really, really beautiful mother, as a really good friend," one close friend told 7NEWS.
An 80-Hour Work Week for Her Son's Future
Colleagues and friends revealed the immense dedication Supriya showed in providing for her teenage son. Her commitment was so strong that she would regularly work up to 80 hours a week.
"She would work up to 80 hours a week because she loved her job so much," a friend explained. "She just wanted to bring home as much money as possible so her son could have the best life ever."
This tireless work ethic was a testament to her love and her dream of securing a bright future for her child in their adopted country.
A Relationship in Decline and a Community in Shock
Friends of the couple indicated that their relationship had deteriorated significantly in recent times. The situation had reached a point where they were barely communicating.
"Things had started going downhill for them in that they weren't really talking and just living as housemates just to be there for their son," one friend disclosed.
Neighbours on their quiet street described the family as lovely and said they would often see them walking their dog. The alleged violence came as a complete shock, with no prior signs of trouble.
"We haven't had any issues, haven't had, you know, but three days out before Christmas, like it's pretty heartbreaking," one neighbour said. Another simply called the news a "shocking surprise."

Supriya Thakur's husband faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with murder. He did not apply for bail during the brief hearing.
