Western Australia has celebrated a significant milestone of festive generosity, with its annual Christmas present drive delivering more than 35,000 gifts to children and young people in state care since the program's inception.
A Record of Community Kindness
The State Government initiative, which began in 2012, reached its impressive new total on Tuesday, 23 December 2025. This year's effort was bolstered by the participation of more than 40 organisations, each sponsoring children and purchasing presents based on personalised wish lists. These lists are created by the young recipients themselves and compiled by the Department of Communities.
The program has seen steady growth each year, driven by the generosity of community members who volunteer as donors and organisers. Gifts are distributed across the entire state, ensuring that children and young people in both metropolitan Perth and regional areas receive a special package of seasonal cheer.
Beyond Presents: A Partnership for Discovery
In a major new addition for 2025, Child Protection Minister Jessica Stojkovski announced a partnership with Scitech. The government will distribute 500 free family passes to the popular science discovery centre. Each pass allows entry for two adults and four children and is valid for a full 12 months.
This contribution, valued at $51,000, will enable up to 1000 adults and 2000 children in care to enjoy hands-on learning and entertainment. The initiative aims to spread joy to young people who are often unable to spend the Christmas period with their biological families.
Building Inclusive Communities
Minister Stojkovski expressed her commitment to supporting foster care households across WA. She extended her thanks to Scitech and the dedicated 'Christmas Elves' at the Department of Communities who coordinate the extensive logistics behind the annual drive.
"This wonderful initiative helps build safe, inclusive and connected communities across our state," Ms Stojkovski said. The gift drive stands as a powerful testament to the community's collective effort to ensure every child feels remembered and valued during the holiday season.
