A major changing of the guard is underway at 7News Perth, with a new anchor duo set to become familiar faces in living rooms across Western Australia from tonight. Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will take the helm of the flagship 6pm bulletin from Sunday to Wednesday each week.
A New Era for Weeknight News
This significant schedule shift sees the highly respected veteran pairing of Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr move to presenting the news on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The transition marks a gradual step back for the legendary duo, who hold a Guinness World Record for presenting together for 40 years.
For Tsun, who has read the weekend bulletins for a decade, the promotion is a thrilling step. "Tim and I have read the weekend bulletins together for the last six years and we've become good friends," she said. "From our first night reading together, we just clicked."
She expressed deep respect for her predecessors, calling Ardon and Carr a "formidable duo" and acknowledging the challenge of filling their shoes. "I hope Tim and I have as great a partnership as Sue and Rick, although I don't think we will ever match their Guinness World Record," Tsun added. "No one will ever beat that."
Experienced Hands at the Wheel
Both new weeknight anchors bring substantial experience to the desk. Angela Tsun boasts over 20 years in television, beginning as a weather presenter and hosting lifestyle shows before moving into news in 2012. She joined 7News Perth the following year.
For Tsun, the new schedule also offers a personal benefit: more weekend time with her husband and two daughters.
Tim McMillan is an award-winning reporter with 25 years of experience in radio and TV across Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne. He has previously hosted the investigative program Flashpoint.
"Growing up in Perth, Rick and Sue were constants in our living room, so to now be stepping into that role is a pinch-me moment," McMillan said. He praised his new co-anchor, stating, "Ange is terrific fun to work with and I'm looking forward to the next stage. We've got big shoes to fill — but we're excited by the challenge."
What This Means for Viewers
The reshuffle, effective from Sunday, 18 January 2026, ensures continuity and a blend of fresh energy with enduring legacy. Perth viewers will now see McMillan and Tsun delivering the news from Sunday through Wednesday, maintaining the bulletin's high standards.
Meanwhile, the iconic team of Ardon and Carr will continue their record-breaking partnership for the latter part of the week, allowing them a reduced workload while remaining a key part of the 7News Perth family. This carefully managed transition honours the past while firmly setting the course for the future of news presentation in Western Australia.
