Perth's television news landscape is set for a historic shift in 2026 as legendary 7NEWS presenters Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon begin a phased reduction of their on-air duties. The change, described as a new chapter for the station, will see the world record-holding duo continue to anchor the flagship 6pm bulletin from Thursday to Saturday.
A New Schedule for an Iconic Team
From Sunday to Wednesday, the helm of the 6pm news will be taken by Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun, who are significantly expanding their roles. This transition follows a monumental 2025, which celebrated Carr and Ardon's unprecedented 40-year tenure as co-anchors, a feat recognised as a world record.
Carr framed the move as a conscious choice to embrace life beyond the studio. "We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more," she said. Reflecting on her decades of experience, she added, "If there’s one thing I’ve learned from delivering the news for 40 years, it’s that life can change instantly, so when change can happen on your terms, you run with it."
Her long-time colleague, Rick Ardon, emphasised his enduring passion for journalism. "We’re continuing our strong relationship with our loyal viewers, and I expect to be a news breaker well into the future," he stated.
Securing the Future of WA's Most Trusted Bulletin
Ray Kuka, Director of News and Current Affairs for 7NEWS Perth, confirmed that Carr and Ardon remain central to the broadcast's identity. The new schedule allows them to contribute "where their experience matters most." Kuka explained that the celebration of their historic milestone led to a period of reflection, making it clear that 2026 was the right time to offer more flexibility while safeguarding the future of the bulletin they helped shape.
This strategic move is also a major opportunity for the incoming weeknight team. Tim McMillan brings over twenty years of journalism, including award-winning work on Flashpoint and reporting that contributed to Pep’s Law in Western Australia. Angela Tsun has evolved from a popular weather presenter into a respected anchor known for her authoritative delivery and strong news sense during her decade with Seven.
Passing the Baton with Respect
Both McMillan and Tsun expressed deep admiration for the legacy they are helping to steward. "They’ve taught us to care about every detail but most importantly how to be loyal to the people who matter most: our viewers," McMillan said.
Angela Tsun added, "I’ve watched and respected the tenacity and inquisitive minds of Sue and Rick for so long. Watching them has helped me develop to a point where we’re ready for the future, a future we will approach together."
Maryna Fewster, CEO of Seven West Media WA, predicted 2026 will be a "huge" year for 7NEWS Perth, praising the "respectful and supported" manner of the role reshuffle. News Director Christien de Garis assured viewers that while the faces on certain nights may change, the core journalism and commitment to Western Australian stories will remain "as strong as ever."
The supporting team of Ryan Daniels on Sport, Samantha Jolly on Weather, with Adrian Barich and Charlotte Goodlet on weekends, remains unchanged. Tim McMillan will also continue his role on Money Talks. The new on-air schedule commences on Sunday, 18 January 2026.
