Works have officially commenced on a major $1 million upgrade to the Supreme Court Gardens event space in Perth, featuring a new permanent community stage funded by a Lotterywest grant. The project aims to transform the gardens into a vibrant, year-round hub for community and cultural events.
Major Investment in Perth's Public Space
The City of Perth has confirmed that construction is now underway on the significant enhancement of the Supreme Court Gardens. The centerpiece of the upgrade is a permanent community event stage, supported by a Lotterywest grant exceeding $1 million. This investment is designed to revitalise one of Perth's most cherished public spaces.
In addition to the stage, the project includes comprehensive upgrades to amenities, improved accessibility features, and sustainability measures to ensure the gardens' long-term viability. These enhancements are expected to support a wider range of events throughout the year.
Official Statements on the Project
City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds emphasised the long-term benefits of this investment for residents and the city's events sector. "Set along the Derbarl Yerrigan/Swan River within the world-class surrounds of Elizabeth Quay, Supreme Court Gardens is one of Perth's most loved public spaces," Mr Reynolds stated.
"This investment will ensure the gardens continue to be a place where the community comes together for years to come, with upgrades that enable a wider range of events that are easier to access and deliver throughout the year," he added.
Lotterywest chief executive officer Colin Smith highlighted the inclusive nature of the new stage. "The Lotterywest community stage will help transform the Supreme Court Gardens into a vibrant, year-round destination for community and cultural events," Mr Smith said.
"With its inclusive design and accessible features, the permanent stage will provide a welcoming space for everyone. The stage will support a wide range of activities, such as lunch-time performances and community events, to bring people together in the heart of Perth's CBD," he explained.
Project Timeline and Features
The construction project is scheduled to run until October, with completion timed for the upcoming summer season. Key features of the upgrade include:

- Enhanced accessibility improvements throughout the gardens
- Upgraded amenities for event organisers and visitors

The stage, designed by Gresley Abas Architects, represents a significant commitment to Perth's cultural infrastructure.
