Newcastle Comedy Festival 2026 Gala Reveals 'Bonkers' Star-Studded Line-Up
Newcastle Comedy Fest 2026 Gala Line-Up Announced

The Newcastle Comedy Festival is gearing up for what could be its biggest year yet in 2026, with organisers unveiling a powerhouse line-up for the flagship Gala event that founder Andrew Milos describes as "pretty bonkers".

Star-Studded Gala Set to Break Records

Scheduled for July 18 at the Civic Theatre, the festival's centrepiece Gala will feature a formidable roster of Australian comedic talent. Headliners include the acclaimed Wil Anderson, who will make his debut appearance at the Newcastle festival, alongside the sharp wit of Kirsty Webeck and the observational humour of Daniel Muggleton.

The bill is further packed with crowd-pleasers like Nick Cody, Chris Ryan, Lizzy Hoo, and Luke McGregor. Newcastle's own Brett Blake, who is set to emcee the Gala at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, will host the home-town event. Tom Cashman, known for his role on Taskmaster, and the veteran comic Luke Heggie round out the initial announcement, with more names promised in the coming weeks.

Festival founder Andrew Milos expressed his excitement about the calibre and diversity of the 2026 program. "I'm really happy with the Gala line-up this year, it's really diverse and there are a couple of big-hitters on there as well," Milos said. "We've never had Wil Anderson at the festival before. Then there's Tom Cashman from Taskmaster who has had a meteoric rise."

Building on a Record-Breaking Legacy

Now in its ninth year and supported by the City of Newcastle, the festival has firmly cemented its place on the national comedy calendar. The 2025 event set a high bar, shattering attendance records with nearly 7000 tickets sold across the month-long program.

"The numbers that we did last year were just way beyond what we thought was possible," Mr Milos admitted. However, he is confident that 2026 could surpass even those impressive figures, labelling this year's plans as the "most ambitious" to date.

The early ticket sales suggest he might be right. "I put the Gala and a few solo shows on sale before Christmas and let it go organically, and I think we've sold something like 460 tickets to the Gala already - and that's without marketing it at all," Milos revealed. He confidently predicted that the Gala will sell out and hinted at the possibility of adding a second show due to demand.

Expanded Festival Experience for 2026

Beyond the marquee Gala, the 2026 Newcastle Comedy Festival promises a broad program featuring stand-up, sketch, musical comedy, and special events. Key venues include the Newcastle Comedy Club at its new home in the Islington Barracks Hotel, alongside the Playhouse and the Newcastle Conservatorium.

In a significant step forward for accessibility, the festival has confirmed that full disability access will be available at all venues for the first time in its history, ensuring the event is open to all comedy fans.

With a line-up that blends established stars with fast-rising talent, and building on years of sold-out success, the Newcastle Comedy Festival is poised to deliver another landmark year for live entertainment in the Hunter region.
