Cairns residents can now start planning their national day celebrations, with the Cairns Regional Council releasing the official and detailed program for Australia Day 2024. The formal proceedings will commence at 8:30 am on Friday, January 26, with the Citizenship and Awards Ceremony at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC). This significant event will welcome 70 new Australian citizens from 26 different nations, a powerful moment highlighting the region's multicultural fabric.
During the same ceremony, the council will honour outstanding local contributors. The prestigious Cairns Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Senior Citizen of the Year awards will be announced, alongside the Community Group of the Year.
