Five months after an overdose left him unconscious on the streets, American actor and comedian Andy Dick has been spotted happily mingling with fans at an event in Los Angeles. The 60-year-old Newsradio star wore a pinstripe blazer and a convincing smile as he signed autographs at the Hollywood Show convention. The appearance comes after Dick was found unconscious during an apparent overdose in LA in December last year.
Fan Interaction at Hollywood Show
Andy Dick was seen greeting fans and signing memorabilia during an appearance at the Hollywood Show convention in LA. The troubled comedian appeared in good spirits as he chatted with fans, sharing details about his treatment and recovery journey.
Details of the Overdose Incident
A video circulated on social media in December showed the star slumped over and unresponsive on the cement stairs of a building in Hollywood. Eyewitnesses claimed he had turned blue and appeared dead until paramedics administered multiple doses of Narcan, a nasal spray medication used to reverse opioid overdoses.
He checked into a rehab facility shortly after and has since reflected on the near-fatal experience. "This is not funny, and I don't remember this, but they say I came back to life, sat up and the first thing outta my mouth was, 'Where's the vodka?'" Dick told Page Six back in January. "I don't remember. I was still out of it ... just coming back from death and Narcan'd up. I was out of my mind."
Continued Struggles and Recovery
He sparked fresh concern in February when images emerged showing him being pushed around the streets of LA in a wheelchair after his reported 50-day stay in a rehab facility located in Palm Springs. "[I've been to rehab] many, many, many, many, many times," he told Page Six after checking out of the facility. "This one feels different, I think, mostly because I actually legit died, and I can't believe I came back to life."
In a video captured outside the recent fan meet-and-greet, Dick revealed his treatment is ongoing but he is recovering "well". "I'm still in it, I'm in a sober house," he shared, adding "so people have their eye on me."
Career Background
Dick began his career in the early 1990s as a cast member on The Ben Stiller Show before achieving widespread recognition for his role as the eccentric Matthew Brock on the hit sitcom Newsradio. His struggles with drug and alcohol abuse have been well documented throughout his time in the spotlight.
