Movie enthusiasts in Perth's northern suburbs can now enjoy blockbusters like never before, thanks to a groundbreaking upgrade at a popular cinema complex. Cinema giant HOYTS has unveiled a massive 25-metre APEX screen at its Karrinyup location, setting a new world record as the largest indoor cinema screen on the planet.
A New Era for Cinema
The HOYTS APEX screen, powered by over 24 million pixels and boasting a display six times brighter than traditional theatres, promises audiences a deeply immersive viewing experience. This is the second HOYTS APEX screen opened in Australia this week, following the launch at Melbourne Central. However, the Perth screen is three metres larger than its eastern states counterpart.
Enhanced Comfort and Technology
The upgrade also includes five daybeds in the front row, perfect for relaxing during long films. HOYTS CEO and President Damian Keogh described the Karrinyup upgrade as a defining moment for the Australian cinema franchise. "At HOYTS Karrinyup, we are proud to introduce the world's largest LED cinema screen. The scale is breathtaking, but what truly sets HOYTS APEX apart is how seamlessly the technology comes together," he said.
Adam Wrightson, IT director of HOYTS cinema group, echoed this sentiment, stating that the latest technology marks a new era for Australian cinema. "HOYTS APEX delivers what is simply the most advanced big screen experience available today. The LED screen is fully acoustically transparent, allowing sound to pass directly through the movie. This means audio is placed exactly where it should be — on screen — delivering a level of precision and immersion audiences haven't experienced before. At Karrinyup, on a screen of this size, the experience is completely immersive, with every detail of the story amplified by its scale," he explained.
Blockbuster Season
The upgrade comes as a wave of blockbuster films hits Western Australian cinemas, including acclaimed movies like The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael, which have been released in recent weeks.
