A woman and a child have allegedly been subjected to assault and torture by a man during a terrifying hours-long attack in Queensland's southwest.

The Incident

Police report that on Wednesday, a man allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened her with a knife multiple times over several hours at a property in the rural town of Tara. Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry stated that the man then allegedly dragged the woman to his car, forcing her inside against her will while threatening her and other residents.

Child Victim

The man is also accused of assaulting a 12-year-old boy during the incident. Police were notified and arrived at the location around midday, but the man drove off in a car before they could apprehend him.

Arrest and Charges

The 26-year-old man from Goranba was found and arrested around 3am on Thursday in bushland near Goranba. He has been charged with one count each of threatening violence and torture. Additionally, he faces multiple other charges, including two counts of common assault against a child, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), and four counts of common assault.

The man is scheduled to appear in Dalby Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police Response

Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry described the incident as a 'horrific' case of domestic violence. He confirmed that the woman and the boy are receiving ongoing medical and professional support following the ordeal.
