Lake Heights Man Guilty of 3,000 Child Abuse Files via Dark Web

A 63-year-old man from Lake Heights has pleaded guilty to possessing more than three thousand files of child abuse material after authorities linked him to the dark web through cryptocurrency transactions.

Court Appearance and Guilty Plea

Constantinos Haidoussis appeared before Magistrate David Williams in Wollongong Local Court on January 28, dressed entirely in white. He entered a guilty plea to the charge of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed via a carriage service.

Police Investigation and Evidence

According to court documents, NSW Police began investigating Haidoussis in March 2025 after identifying cryptocurrency transactions suspected of being linked to the purchase of child abuse material on the darknet. On March 12, police executed a search warrant at his Lake Heights residence, seizing five electronic devices including hard drives with one terabyte of storage and a desktop computer.

Encrypted Hard Drive Discovery

Initially, Haidoussis claimed he had never used an encrypted Toshiba hard drive and did not know the password. However, after being arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, he provided the password. Forensic examination revealed 1,611 files on this drive, comprising 34 videos and 1,577 photos depicting children aged two to ten engaged in sexual acts with an adult male.

Additional Storage Devices

On a Synology Network Attached Storage device, police found 1,465 media files showing additional child abuse material involving victims aged five to twelve. Another hard drive contained 245 files, including 40 videos and 205 photos, of children between eight and ten years old exposed to sexual acts.

Disturbing Content Details

Further investigations uncovered photos on Haidoussis' devices showing a woman and man engaged in sexual acts in the presence of children aged two to ten. Additionally, his desktop PC held a 58-minute video of a female child, estimated to be eight to ten years old, involved in a personal sexual act with an animal.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Haidoussis has been committed to the District Court in Wollongong for sentencing next month. He remains on bail pending the outcome of the sentencing hearing.
