Katie Underwood Tears Up Over Backstage Drama Claims, Calls It 'Online Bullying'
Katie Underwood Addresses Backstage Drama Claims as Bullying

Katie Underwood Breaks Down Over Backstage Drama Allegations

Bardot group member Katie Underwood has addressed claims she was involved in backstage drama in a tearful video, labelling the comments as online bullying. Underwood performed at the first Mighty Hoopla festival in Sydney over the weekend, reuniting with Belinda Chapple, Sally Polihronas, and Tiffani Wood for the first time in 25 years. Sophie Monk did not join the long-awaited comeback.

Emotional Instagram Video Details Stressful Experience

Underwood first described the experience and the support of the group reuniting as overwhelmingly positive. However, in an emotional clip shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Underwood revealed through tears that her experience had been overshadowed by claims she caused drama backstage before the performance. The video has since been taken down.

In the video, Underwood shared her side of the story, explaining the chaotic backstage environment. We got backstage half an hour before we were due to go on, she said. All I wanted was a sound check and a microphone. There were legit 50 people backstage. I could barely get in the door because it was blocked by so many people.

Underwood Defends Her Actions Amidst Criticism

The singer admitted she may have appeared rude but added that didn't justify the comments. As a woman ... I'm expected to look f***ing happy all the time. Well, guess what? I wasn't happy, I was stressed, Underwood explained. She emphasized the distinction between private thoughts and public posts, stating, When you have a thought about someone and you talk to your friends about it in your life, in your world, that's your right to think and say what you want in your own world, and I can't control that and I'm fine with that. But the moment you put that thought on the page online, it's online bullying.

Underwood called out one remark in particular she claims said: Katie Underwood was a complete moll back stage. She went on to warn that if the online harassment continued, she may not perform with the band again. If this continues, there's no f***ing way I am doing a tour, she said. If this is the shit I'm gonna have to put up with just because half an hour before our first show in f***ing 25 years, heaven forbid, I get a little stressed and don't have a pleasing face and an acceptable social manner.

Bardot's Legacy and Brief Success

Bardot were the biggest Australian girl group of the early 2000s, skyrocketing to fame after being created on Channel Seven's hit series Popstars. The group scored major success with songs including:

  • Poison
  • These Days
  • I Should've Never Let You Go
  • I Need Somebody

Despite releasing two successful albums and achieving six consecutive top-20 singles, the band split just two years later. This reunion at the Mighty Hoopla festival marked a significant moment for fans, but the controversy has cast a shadow over the event.
