Jacob Elordi's Oscar nomination celebrations took a delightfully unexpected and heartwarming turn during a live appearance on Sunrise on Friday morning. The Brisbane-born actor, who has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at this year's Academy Awards, was speaking to the program from Los Angeles when his proud mother suddenly jumped into the interview, momentarily stealing the spotlight.
A Proud Mother's Surprise Appearance
The 28-year-old actor, clearly elated by the news, revealed he had actually slept through the 5am local time nomination announcements. "I was asleep because someone decides to do it at five in the morning," he joked during the broadcast. "I heard Mum's alarm, and then I sort of remembered what was going on."
His mother, however, was quick to correct him live on air, revealing she had not actually set an alarm at all. "I got a phone call, but I'd had four dreams that it had already happened. So when it really happened, it was incredibly exciting," she shared enthusiastically. "It's so surreal."
Elordi, laughing good-naturedly, quickly reclaimed the interview, cutting her off with, "and I'm taking the phone" as he jumped back into the conversation.
A Significant Career Achievement
The Oscar nomination represents a major milestone for Elordi, who has experienced a rapid rise in Hollywood over recent years following standout roles in popular productions such as Euphoria, Saltburn, and Priscilla.
He received the nomination for his portrayal of The Creature in the 2025 film adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic Gothic novel, Frankenstein. The actor described the role as demanding an intense physical transformation, with him spending up to ten hours daily in the makeup chair to achieve the required look.
"It was real cinema, which is the kind of thing I've wanted to be a part of my whole life. So it's pretty unbelievable," Elordi reflected on the experience.
Family Connections and Broadcast Details
Elordi concluded the chat with a special shoutout to his nieces back home in Mackay, highlighting the personal connections that remain important despite his international success.
The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony will air live on Channel Seven on March 16, offering Australian viewers the opportunity to watch Elordi's potential historic moment unfold.
