A Geelong man has pleaded guilty to a series of child sex offences, with the case now set to proceed to the County Court for sentencing.
Guilty Plea Entered in Geelong Court
Kyle Stone-McDougall appeared in the Geelong Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he entered guilty pleas to multiple charges related to child sexual abuse. The 25-year-old faced a total of 14 charges, including sexual penetration of a child under 16, indecent act with a child under 16, and possession of child abuse material.
The court heard that the offences occurred between 2020 and 2022, involving victims aged under 16. Stone-McDougall was arrested in 2022 following an investigation by the Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team.
Case Details and Next Steps
Magistrate Peter Mithen committed Stone-McDougall to the County Court for a plea hearing, which is expected to take place later this year. The accused was remanded in custody and will reappear in court in June.
Detective Senior Constable Lisa Smith, from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team, said the guilty plea was a significant step in bringing the offender to justice. “This result demonstrates our commitment to protecting children and holding offenders accountable,” she said.
Stone-McDougall’s lawyer, Sarah Johnson, indicated that her client would cooperate with the court process and seek a psychological assessment prior to sentencing.
Broader Context and Support Services
The case highlights ongoing efforts by Victorian authorities to combat child sexual abuse. The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team, a partnership between Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police, has been actively investigating such crimes.
Support services are available for victims of child sexual abuse, including the National Sexual Assault, Domestic Family Violence Counselling Service (1800RESPECT) and the Bravehearts support line.
The court has imposed a suppression order preventing publication of details that could identify the victims. The matter is listed for a directions hearing on June 15.
