Television presenter Alli Simpson has revealed that her brother, Olympic swimmer and musician Cody Simpson, is heading into surgery on Wednesday after haemorrhaging two vocal cords. The procedure had previously been postponed after Cody dislocated his knee while rehearsing for a music video.
Cody's Health Setbacks
“Everything’s happened to him all at once,” Alli Simpson told Sunrise. “He was full steam ahead on his album, and then he found out that he’d haemorrhaged two vocal cords.” Despite the setbacks, Cody managed to completely rewrite his music video script and shoot it without dancing. The song and video are set to be released on Friday.
“Cody’s so optimistic and positive. He’s like, the universe has a different plan for me right now,” Simpson said. Despite his health issues, Cody’s new single and accompanying music video will still be released on Friday.
Alli on Dating and Turning 30
Speaking on the Morning Show on Wednesday, Simpson also opened up about navigating life as a single woman approaching 30, saying social media can make it difficult not to compare yourself to others. “I think especially right now there’s like a dating epidemic with mid-20s, late 20s,” Simpson said. “You can scroll on Instagram and see everyone getting engaged, everyone’s getting married or getting pregnant and that is all amazing. But then there’s that pressure when you are moving towards your 30s.”
She said hosting her podcast has helped her process those feelings while connecting with others experiencing the same thing. “I think it’s good to talk about because I think there are so many women and men my age feeling the same thing as me,” she said. “I just think that it’s important we trust our own timeline and the universe has got a plan for all of us in different ways.”
McDonald's Partnership
Simpson also revealed she is partnering with McDonald’s for the fast food giant’s biggest drinks launch in 30 years. She will host a special event in Sydney on Saturday, giving locals the chance to sample 10 new beverages ahead of the range rolling out nationally on July 15. “I grew up having McDonald’s birthday parties with my best friend because we had a really similar birthday,” she said.
