Lauren Bennett, the singer whose vocals helped propel LMFAO's 2011 megahit "Party Rock Anthem" to global success, suffered a "severe" medical episode months before her death, her father has revealed. Bennett died in England on May 29, one month before her 37th birthday, according to Kent and Medway Coroner records obtained by USA Today.
Father's Heartbreaking Tribute
Her father, Richard, posted a tribute on social media, describing Bennett as "the love of my life and my pride and joy." He wrote: "Lauren was an incredible person and artist: creative, talented, funny, and as humble as she was beautiful. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and made a lasting impact on countless lives through her music, her kindness and the way she made people feel."
Medical Incident and Criticism of NHS
While an official cause of death has not been released, Richard revealed that his daughter had suffered a "severe reaction to a prescribed medication" and criticized the UK's National Health Service. "As a family, we all rallied around her and did everything we could to support her," he said. "We have no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her death, only deep disappointment that, for five months, medical professionals and NHS services failed to treat her appropriately during her time of greatest need."
Career and Legacy
Bennett rose to fame as a member of the girl groups Paradiso Girls and GRL (Girls Rock Life), but her most notable achievement was featuring on "Party Rock Anthem," which topped charts worldwide in 2011. The now-disbanded GRL announced her death on social media, stating: "It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren. Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved."
Fellow Artists Pay Tribute
SkyBlu, one half of LMFAO, also honored Bennett: "Nothing but love for this beautiful soul. I'm so grateful we rocked the world together. RIP." Bennett's father thanked fans for their support, saying the family has been overwhelmed by the "love, support and kindness" shown since the news broke.
