Community Search Begins for Geelong's Top Early Childhood Educator
The hunt is officially on to crown Geelong's most outstanding kindergarten or daycare teacher for the year 2025. The Geelong Advertiser has launched its public nomination process, inviting the community to put forward early childhood educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication and passion.
This initiative shines a spotlight on the region's early childhood education stars, with initial nominations already highlighting teachers described as 'incredible hard workers' with 'kids' best interests at heart'. The campaign aims to deliver ultimate recognition to those who go above and beyond in nurturing Geelong's youngest learners.
Inspiring Educators at the Heart of the Community
Among those already in the spotlight is Mimi Wong, a three-year-old kindergarten teacher at Christian College’s Williams House. Ms Wong embodies the spirit of the profession, highlighting that the best educators are inherently 'passionate, hardworking and warm in nature'.
She shared that the most rewarding aspects of her role are 'watching the kids grow up' and the process of 'building relationships' with them and their families. Her insights provide a glimpse into the personal commitment that defines top-tier early childhood education in the Geelong region.
Praise from a Past Winner
Steph Butler, who won the competition back in 2022, offered high praise for her colleague Mimi Wong. Ms Butler revealed that Ms Wong joined their team as a graduate three years ago and has since become known for her 'authentic and genuine' character.
'She’s the type of person who just makes beautiful connections with the parents and families,' Ms Butler said. 'She’s young, and full of ideas and enthusiasm.' This endorsement from a previous champion underscores the high calibre of talent in the running for the 2025 title.
How the 'Best of Geelong' Competition Works
The search for Geelong's best early childhood teacher is part of the relaunched Best of Geelong series, designed to celebrate incredible local businesses and individuals. The process unfolds in three distinct stages to ensure a fair and comprehensive result.
- The initial call for nominations runs for a two-day period, promoted across the Geelong Advertiser's social media accounts and website.
- After nominations close, the voting stage begins on their website. The individuals with the highest number of nominations will progress, with voting open for one week.
- Once voting concludes, a winner is announced on the website, typically a few days later. The announcement will also recognise up to nine other finalists who received the highest vote counts.
The Geelong Advertiser notes that it reserves the right to disqualify any entries that do not meet the competition's criteria. The community is now encouraged to participate and help honour the educators who make a profound difference in children's lives.
