Teacher Confronts Additional Charges Following Birth of Baby Allegedly Fathered by Student

A Western Australian educator accused of engaging in persistent sexual conduct with a student is anticipated to confront further criminal charges after giving birth to a baby reportedly fathered by the teenage boy. Naomi Tekea Craig, aged thirty-three, was initially charged in December with two counts of sexually penetrating a child aged between thirteen and under sixteen, one count of possessing child exploitation material, and persistent sexual conduct with a child under sixteen.

Alleged Abuse Occurred at Perth-Area School

The alleged misconduct is said to have transpired between 2024 and 2025 while Craig was employed as a teacher at Frederick Irwin Anglican School, located south of Perth in Western Australia. Authorities have confirmed that the coastal suburb of Silver Sands resident is expected to face three additional charges when she appears in Mandurah Magistrates Court on January twenty-seventh.

These new charges include sexually penetrating a child aged between thirteen and under sixteen, indecently dealing with a child over thirteen and under sixteen, and indecent dealing with a child under thirteen. The development follows reports by The West Australian newspaper indicating the teacher had given birth to a baby, with the newborn allegedly fathered by the student involved in the case.

Police Commissioner Describes Allegations as Heinous

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch addressed reporters, confirming that DNA testing had been undertaken in connection with the matter. While noting the case is before the court, Blanch characterized the allegations as very serious and heinous offences related to child sex crimes within the community.

"We should all be shocked by any of these allegations that young people are being preyed upon in our community," Commissioner Blanch stated. "I'm not going to speak specifically to this matter but if it is by a person in a position of authority or care of another, it's even more aggravating."

School and Government Officials Respond to Allegations

WA Premier Roger Cook expressed that the community is confronted and disturbed by the reports stemming from these allegations, while emphasizing the matter remains before the courts. Meanwhile, Frederick Irwin Anglican School previously communicated with parents through a newsletter, confirming a teacher had been arrested and suspended from duty pending the outcome of police investigations and any potential prosecution.

The school assured parents that the teacher had been instructed not to attend the school premises and that available information suggested no concern for other children at the institution. This case highlights ongoing concerns about boundary violations within educational environments and the legal consequences for those in positions of authority accused of misconduct with minors.
