Illawarra's Serendipity Support Services Celebrates Disability Day with Quality Care
Serendipity Support Services: Empowering Illawarra Disability Community

As the world marks International Day of People with Disability on December 3, a dedicated Illawarra-based provider is highlighting its commitment to empowering individuals and promoting rights within the local community.

A Family-Run Mission for Participant-Centred Care

Serendipity Support Services, a family-owned and operated disability service provider, has been delivering quality support in the Illawarra region since its establishment in 2018. Founded by directors Brenda and Martyn Devine, the business is built on a core philosophy of placing participants at the heart of every service.

The co-founders bring a combined 45 years of experience in the disability sector, driving a passionate and knowledgeable approach to care, support, and advice for participants and their families.

Expanding Services and Homes Across the Region

Serendipity offers a comprehensive suite of support services designed to foster independence and community connection. These include In-Home Care, Community Access, Respite Care, Supported Independent Living (SIL), and a vibrant Day Program.

The organisation's growth is evident in its residential offerings. It opened a respite home in the quiet Primbee suburb in 2018, which has recently been renovated and has vacancies available for 2026. The popular Day Program, also based in Primbee and launched in 2019, has a full itinerary of activities planned for the coming year.

A significant milestone was reached in 2021 with the opening of Serendipity's first Supported Independent Living home, providing a safe and welcoming environment for four residents. A second SIL home followed in 2022, featuring three bedrooms. Vacancies are currently available in this second home, offering new opportunities for individuals seeking independent living with support.

Community Engagement and a Qualified Team

Beyond direct care, Serendipity believes in supporting the wider community. This commitment is demonstrated through its role as the main sponsor for the Oak Flats Junior Soccer Club for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The service's strength lies in its team. "We have an extensive and knowledgeable team of staff members who have qualifications ranging from disabilities to mental health and beyond," said co-founder Brenda Devine. The team engages in ongoing training and professional development to ensure the highest standard of care.

Feedback from participants and families underscores the impact of this approach. Testimonials praise the staff for being caring, respectful, flexible, and consistent, with many noting that the support feels like an extension of family.
