$43 Million Upgrade Complete at Duncraig Senior High School
Duncraig SHS opens $43m modern learning facilities

A major $43 million redevelopment of Duncraig Senior High School has been officially opened, marking the completion of a two-year project to deliver cutting-edge learning facilities for students in Perth's northern suburbs.

Modern Learning Hubs Take Shape

The significant investment has produced a brand new, two-storey science block equipped with 12 modern laboratories. Alongside it stands a new two-storey English block featuring 17 contemporary classrooms. These structures, designed by With Architecture Studio and built by PS Structures, are linked by a covered bridge and include terraced outdoor seating suitable for alfresco lessons.

Construction commenced in October 2023 and was finished last month, in December 2025. The project involved more than just new buildings; it repurposed existing spaces to meet evolving educational needs. The former science block has been converted into dedicated STEM and information technology laboratories. Old language classrooms are now four visual arts studios, and a previous maths area has been transformed into staff study spaces.

Investing in Future Generations

WA Education Minister Sabine Winton stated that the new facilities at the northern end of the campus would serve students for years to come. "Duncraig Senior High School’s new English learning block provides a vibrant space for collaboration, reflection, and debate," Ms Winton said. "The next-generation science learning block is a modern, purpose-built hub, meeting the needs of a growing school."

Hillarys MLA Caitlin Collins echoed the sentiment, highlighting the community-wide impact. "These upgrades to Duncraig Senior High School are a huge win for the local community and will have a hugely positive impact on students and teachers," Ms Collins said. "This is about investing in the future of our community."

A School for a Growing Community

Duncraig SHS is a public co-educational school catering to students from Year 7 to Year 12. It draws its cohort from the catchment suburbs of Duncraig, Hillarys, Padbury and Sorrento. Since opening in 1979 with approximately 800 students, the school has experienced substantial growth. As of the second semester last year, its enrolment had reached 1,851 students.

The completion of this multimillion-dollar upgrade ensures the school's infrastructure can support its expanding role in the community, providing what local leaders describe as a world-class learning environment for the north-of-the-river area.
