A teacher from a prestigious private school in Mandurah is facing serious criminal charges following allegations she sexually abused a former male student.
Charges Laid Following Child Abuse Squad Investigation
Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, was arrested and charged by Western Australia's child abuse squad. The charges stem from an investigation into alleged misconduct involving a former pupil of Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Meadow Springs.
Police allege that Craig engaged in what they have described as "persistent sexual conduct" with the teenager. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2024 and 2025.
Specific Charges and School Response
The specific charges laid against the teacher are severe. She faces two counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16. In addition, she has been charged with one count of possessing child exploitation material and one count of persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16.
In response to the arrest, Frederick Irwin Anglican School acted swiftly. The school's principal sent a letter to parents and carers on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. The correspondence confirmed that the alleged victim is no longer enrolled at the school.
The letter stated that Craig had been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the police investigation and any potential prosecution. It emphasised that the teacher had been instructed not to attend the school grounds.
"The information available to the school suggests that there is no need for any concern for any other children at the school," the letter assured parents.
Court Date and Community Impact
Naomi Tekea Craig is scheduled to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27, 2026. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly among families connected to the K-12 Anglican school.
A spokeswoman for the WA Police Force addressed the distressing nature of such cases. "Protecting children and ensuring their safety is our highest priority," she said. "The WA Police Force acknowledges that reports of offences against children are deeply distressing for the community."
She confirmed that specialist detectives and support services are involved in the investigation, working to provide care for victims.
