A primary school student's morning walk to class on the Gold Coast turned into a terrifying ordeal after she was allegedly grabbed by a stranger.
Morning Walk Interrupted by Alleged Assault
The incident occurred just before 9am on Thursday, as the 12-year-old girl was walking along a footpath near Miles Street in the suburb of Coolangatta. According to police reports, a man she did not know approached her and allegedly grabbed her by the shoulders.
Authorities state the man then released the girl and ran from the scene. Fortunately, the young student was not physically injured during the frightening encounter.
Swift Police Response and Arrest
Following the report, Queensland Police launched immediate patrols across the Coolangatta area. Their investigation led them to a 21-year-old man located in Coolangatta that same afternoon.
The man is now assisting police with their enquiries. It is understood he remained at the Coolangatta Police Station on Thursday night as the investigation continued.
