A serious incident involving students from an elite Sydney private school has sparked a police investigation after a teenager was allegedly ambushed and assaulted by his classmates.
Alleged Park Ambush and Assault
A 17-year-old student from Scots College, located in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, has filed a formal report with New South Wales Police. The teenager alleges he was lured to a park near the Woollahra Golf Club on Saturday evening, around 5:40pm, under the pretence of attending a party.
Instead of a gathering, the boy claims he was ambushed by a group of fellow students. He was reportedly forced to walk through a human tunnel while being subjected to sustained verbal and physical abuse. The entire incident was filmed on a mobile phone.
Footage Shared on Social Media
The disturbing footage was subsequently posted to a Snapchat group, where it circulated among students. According to reports from the Daily Telegraph, the video shows the boy being struck and having drinks poured over him while being called derogatory names.
While the victim did not sustain major physical injuries, he told police the experience left him "felt very upset". His mother, Trish, described receiving a terrifying phone call from her son during the ordeal.
"When you get a phone call while you're at work and it's your son screaming and telling you what had happened, to be honest, I couldn't believe it," she told radio station 2GB. She added that her son had been "pressured" into attending, believing it was an expected event to show support.
School and Police Response
The boy's mother has provided the footage to Scots College, a private institution with annual fees around $46,000, and has been in contact with the head of the senior school. NSW Police have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the alleged assault at a sports ground.
7News.com.au has approached Scots College for an official comment on the matter. The incident raises serious questions about student conduct and duty of care within prestigious educational institutions.
The community is now awaiting the outcomes of both the police probe and the school's internal response to the serious allegations.
