A young woman is in custody following an alleged domestic violence-related stabbing at a hotel in the Newcastle suburb of Carrington.
Police Respond to Young Street Incident
Emergency services were called to a venue on Young Street in Carrington just before 11am on Friday, January 16. Police arrived to find a 23-year-old man suffering from alleged stab wounds.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene before transporting him to John Hunter Hospital for further care. Police confirmed at the time that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Arrest and Charges Laid
Officers arrested a 22-year-old woman, identified as Alyssa Richardson, at the hotel. She was taken to Newcastle Police Station for questioning.
Richardson has been charged with several domestic violence offences, including wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. She also faces charges of stalking or intimidating and common assault.
Police stated the man and woman were known to each other, alleging the assault was domestic in nature.
Court Proceedings Begin
Alyssa Richardson has not been required to enter pleas to the allegations at this early stage. She is scheduled to face court again later this week, where her lawyer is expected to make an application for bail.
