A third individual has been formally charged by police as investigations intensify into a weekend brawl that left an 18-year-old man with serious stab wounds in a Newcastle West car park.
Violent Early Morning Confrontation
Emergency services rushed to the Marketown shopping centre car park on Parry Street around 3:20am on Sunday, January 11, 2026, following reports of a large-scale violent altercation. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young man suffering from a stab wound to his neck and head.
Newcastle City Police District officers established a crime scene and began immediate inquiries. It is understood that at least six people were involved in the incident. The injured teenager received treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Arrests and Court Appearances Follow Investigation
The investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man at Newcastle Police Station about 2pm on Wednesday, January 14. He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, and affray. The man was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, January 29.
This arrest follows the earlier court appearances of two other men linked to the same incident. Tyler Curran and his 18-year-old cousin, Riley Chapman, both from Woodberry, were granted bail less than 24 hours after their arrest. The court heard that the pair were captured on CCTV footage at the King Street Hotel on the night of the incident.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Findlay told the court that the entire ordeal was captured on footage and alleged that Curran had been involved in an ongoing dispute. It was allegedly arranged that the parties would meet at the Marketown car park. Chapman is set to face Newcastle Local Court later this month, while Curran's matter is due to return in March.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District have confirmed that inquiries into the violent incident are continuing. The charging of a third man represents a significant development in the case as police work to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the serious assault.
