Teenager Arrested Following Dramatic Police Chase
A 19-year-old Canberra man is facing multiple criminal charges following a dangerous high-speed police pursuit that stretched across several suburbs in the city's south during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Dangerous Driving Through Residential Areas
According to ACT Policing, officers were conducting routine patrols in Wanniassa when they encountered a silver Ford Falcon ute travelling south on Drakeford Drive. When police directed the vehicle to pull over, the driver allegedly accelerated away, reaching speeds of 120km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The pursuit continued into Kambah, where the vehicle was observed running a red light at the intersection of Drakeford Drive and Athllon Drive. Police stated the driver then accelerated to 130km/h in a signed 60km/h zone and proceeded through another red traffic signal, creating significant danger to other road users.
Foot Pursuit and Arrest
The incident concluded around 1am when the vehicle exited the Tuggeranong Parkway and stopped on the roadside. The driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended after a brief foot chase with officers.
The MacGregor resident was subsequently arrested and subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive reading. Further checks revealed the man was driving with a suspended licence and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
The teenager has been charged with two counts each of failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving, and entering an intersection against a red light. Additional charges include drink-driving, driving with a suspended licence, and using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, November 29, 2025 to face these serious allegations.
