Teen Arrested After Dog and Car Stolen on Gold Coast
A teenage boy has been arrested following the theft of a car and a dog on the Gold Coast, in an incident that unfolded over several hours on Wednesday. The Mercedes-Benz was stolen from outside a business in Worongary around 4pm, with the owner's 12-year-old dachshund, named Bailey, inside the vehicle at the time.
According to police reports, the small dog was allegedly taken for a joyride but was let out of the car in Nerang shortly after the theft. Authorities confirmed that the dachshund was found safe and well, providing relief to the concerned owner.
Police tracked the stolen vehicle throughout the afternoon and into the night, culminating in a dramatic scene on the Gold Coast Highway around 11pm. The car's tyres were deflated, and footage from the location showed the driver surrendering peacefully to officers. Sunrise reports indicate that the teen gave himself up by lying in the middle of the road.
The alleged driver, a 17-year-old boy from Tugun, was arrested and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. Investigations into the car theft and the welfare of the dog remain ongoing as authorities piece together the events.
Man Charged After Alleged Bomb Threat Outside Melbourne School
In a separate incident, a man has been arrested and charged following alleged bomb threats made outside a school in Melbourne. Police were called to Dandenong Road in St Kilda at approximately 2:45pm after a man with a backpack allegedly made threats, prompting the school to go into lockdown.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on Westbury Street shortly after the incident. His backpack was searched and found to contain no suspicious devices, alleviating immediate safety concerns. He has been charged with multiple offences, including bomb hoax, trespass, unlawful assault, possession of drugs, and possession of a controlled weapon.
The man was granted bail and is scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on September 16. Investigators have stated that they do not believe the incident was motivated by religious or ideological factors, though the exact circumstances are still under review.
These two cases highlight ongoing police efforts to address crime across different regions, with both incidents resulting in arrests and continued investigations to ensure public safety and justice.
