Dangerous weapons cache uncovered after foot chase
ACT Policing officers have seized a significant arsenal of illegal weapons including a sawn-off shotgun, metal knuckledusters and a conducted energy weapon following the arrest of a 20-year-old man in Hume on Thursday night.
The incident began around 11:30 pm on November 13, 2025 when NSW Police alerted their ACT counterparts about a vehicle that had failed to stop for officers and crossed into Australian Capital Territory jurisdiction.
Dramatic arrest with canine assistance
ACT Policing located the stationary vehicle in the suburb of Hume, where they confronted the suspect. The man attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended with the help of an Australian Federal Police Canine team.
During the initial arrest, officers discovered a conducted energy weapon and a pair of metal knuckledusters in the man's immediate possession.
Backpack reveals deadly arsenal
Following a thorough search of the area, investigators located a backpack that police allege belonged to the 20-year-old. The contents revealed a disturbing collection of weapons and equipment:
- A sawn-off shotgun
- Ammunition
- A ballistic vest
- Handcuffs
The discovery highlights the serious nature of the weapons cache removed from Canberra's streets.
The 20-year-old man now faces multiple charges including possessing a prohibited firearm, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon without authorisation, and possession of ammunition. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court to answer to these serious allegations.
This seizure represents a significant victory for ACT Policing in removing dangerous weapons from circulation and maintaining public safety in the Canberra region.
