New South Wales Police have launched a public appeal for information as they hunt for a man wanted in connection with a serious stabbing at a Newcastle shopping centre car park.
Wanted man identified in investigation
Detectives have released an image and are actively searching for Brady Chapman, aged 19, who is wanted on an outstanding warrant for an assault-related offence. Police described Chapman as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 170 to 175 centimetres tall, with a thin build, black hair, and brown eyes.
Authorities believe he frequents the Newcastle and Thornton areas and are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000.
Three young men already before the courts
The public appeal comes as three other young men face court over the alleged violent incident. The stabbing occurred in the Marketown West carpark in Newcastle West around 3:20am on Sunday.
Riley Chapman, 18, and his cousin Tyler Curran, 18, were both arrested at Rutherford on Tuesday and have since been granted bail. A third man, aged 19, was arrested at Newcastle Police Station the following day. He is scheduled to face court later this month on two charges.
Victim hospitalised with serious injury
The alleged victim, an 18-year-old man, suffered a stab wound to the neck area during the incident. He was transported to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition for treatment.
Police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged Marketown stabbing are ongoing. The incident has heightened concerns about safety in the area, with local workers previously expressing alarm over escalating issues.
Investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the violence and are relying on community assistance to locate the wanted man.
