Newcastle police are hunting for an assailant after a violent stabbing in a busy shopping centre car park left a young man seriously injured.
Violent Early Morning Attack
Just before 3:30am on Sunday morning, emergency services were called to the Marketown shopping centre on Parry Street in Newcastle West. Reports indicated an 18-year-old man had sustained a stab wound to his head and neck area in the car park.
NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene and provided urgent treatment to the victim. He was subsequently transported to John Hunter Hospital, where he was listed in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from the Newcastle City Police District quickly secured the area, cordoning off a large section of the car park with police tape. A crime scene was established to allow forensic experts to gather evidence.
Shoppers arriving at the popular centre on Sunday morning were met with the sight of the taped-off area as the police investigation got underway. The Newcastle Herald contacted Marketown Centre Management for comment on the incident.
